What’s happening: The AAU Junior National Volleyball Championships are back in Orlando — and bigger than ever. Spanning 24 days from June 13 to July 7, the event is drawing an estimated 325,500 attendees to the Orange County Convention Center, up from 300,000 last year.

Why it matters: The tournament is expected to deliver a staggering $825.5M economic boost to Central Florida — a new high, topping last year’s $760.8M. It’s now one of the largest youth sporting events in the country, both in scale and local impact.

By the numbers:

  • 6,500+ teams from across the U.S.

  • 239 courts, 19,500 coaches, and 878 officials

  • Roughly 1,300 teams from Florida alone

Zoom out: Youth sports are gaining traction as high-impact tourism. Unlike traditional conventions, families attending sports events spread spending across hotels, restaurants, retail, and gas stations — injecting "fresh dollars" into the broader local economy.

What’s next: Following volleyball, AAU will host:

  • 1,000 basketball teams in Orlando

  • 7,000–8,000 track athletes in Jacksonville

  • 3,000–4,000 gymnasts, wrestlers, and karate athletes in South Florida

The bottom line: Youth sports aren't just games — they're a major economic engine, and Central Florida is riding the wave.
