What's happening: Orlando International Airport is set to revamp two of its older airside buildings as part of a $50 million renovation project. The airport's authority is currently seeking a design-build contractor for the project, with the aim of updating the interiors to match the modern look of Terminal C, which opened in 2022.
The details:
The project is part of a larger $235 million North Terminal renovation initiative.
Updates include new finishes, gate counters, seating, and lighting across the terminal.
The design phase is expected to begin in early 2025, with construction likely starting by mid-2026 and substantial completion by late 2027.
Additional renovations in the terminal complex include restrooms, the interiors of Terminals A and B, and Gates 1-59, with completion targeted for 2028.
Other developments:
A pedestrian bridge connecting Terminal C to the Intermodal Terminal Facility is nearing completion, expected by October.
Terminal C is also expanding, adding four more gates to accommodate eight additional aircraft.
These upgrades come as the region sees a tourism surge, with fiscal 2024 tax collections already surpassing expectations by $36 million.
Why it matters: With the increase in tourist activity and ongoing expansion efforts, Orlando International Airport is positioning itself to better handle the growing influx of travelers.

What’s happening: IHG Hotels & Resorts is set to start construction on a dual-branded EVEN and Staybridge Suites hotel adjacent to the upcoming Epic Universe theme park in Orlando, slated for a 2025 opening.
The details: The 7-story, 288-room hotel, designed by Baskervill architects, will be located on Universal Boulevard, sharing the area with other major developments like the Terra Luna Resort and a future Marriott-branded W Hotel.
Why it matters: The new hotel aims to cater to the anticipated surge in demand from the theme park, which is expected to attract 5-6 million visitors in its first year. Both brands will offer separate dining and meeting spaces while sharing amenities like a fitness center and outdoor courtyard.
The big picture: IHG's move underscores the significant investment in the Universal Boulevard corridor as Epic Universe drives a wave of new construction and renovations. IHG also recently announced another major project in downtown Orlando, bringing the Kimpton luxury brand to the area, further increasing its presence in a rapidly growing market.
